As Dr. Kelley was first a Doctor of Dental Science, we pay homage to his earlier work, with this section, and the probable dangers to ones health and well being, due to the continued use of mercury in dental work.

‘My silver fillings poisoned me so badly I thought I was having a stroke’

Author reveals how she was poisoned by her mercury-based fillings

Aletha Black

A 44-year-old New York woman went years fearing she was suffering from an autoimmune disorder before she discovered it was the mercury in her silver fillings that was making her sick.

Doctors were at a loss when Alethea Black first started noticing a tickling in her leg and numbness in her left pinky in 2010 – and the symptoms only got worse over the next two years.

After reading an article on the dangers of silver fillings, the Dutchess County native had the cavity fillers removed and has been symptom-free ever since.

Black first noticed something was wrong while taking her dog for a walk in October 2010. She describes what felt like a spider crawling up her leg, but looked down and saw nothing.

‘I would look under my jeans and there would be no spider,’ she told Cosmopolitan magazine. ‘Then I would feel it again.’ Continue reading

Mercury Madness: Why Your Fillings Could Be Hurting Your Health (& What To Do About It!)

Teeth Wind Up ToysIt’s no big secret that mercury is highly poisonous, and that exposure to mercury should be avoided at all costs. Why, then, do dentists keep putting mercury fillings in their patient’s teeth?

Mercury fillings – sometimes called “silver fillings,” “metal fillings” or “amalgam fillings” – are incredibly toxic. Mercury fillings continuously emit mercury vapor, which is absorbed into the body in small amounts. But those “small amounts” can really add up when you have fillings in your mouth leeching mercury vapor into your body every day for one, five, twenty or even fifty years! Continue reading

Chemical Used by Colgate Total Toothpaste to Fight Off Gum Disease is Linked to Cancer

toothpasteA chemical that has been linked to cancer cell growth is being used by millions of Americans in toothpaste every day, it has emerged.

The company behind Colgate Total insists that triclosan, which it uses to stave off gum disease, is safe to use because the toothpaste was approved in 1997 by the Food and Drug Administration.

But the toxicology documents used by the FDA to approve the toothpaste were only released early this year after a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit last year – and reveal the agency relied upon company-backed science to reach its conclusion, Bloomberg News reported.

The 35-page report reveals the FDA had concerns that triclosan could increase the risk of cancer – but Colgate said the chemical was only problematic in large doses. Continue reading

Two Ways Dental Work Destroys Your Health and How to Repair the Damage

dentist-mouthMany of us are afraid of the dentist. The sound of a drill buzzing is enough to get your heart racing, and the smells and awkwardness of having your teeth worked on doesn’t exactly make it easier to put that dental appointment on your list.

If that wasn’t enough, understanding common dental procedures and how many of them are conducted has also given people more reasons to avoid the dentist. Given what we know now about two major dental procedures, who can blame them? Continue reading

Soda addiction as bad for your teeth as meth or crack: study

diet-coke-planeBad news, diet coke junkies: gulping down excessive amounts of soda is no longer just bad for your teeth, now it’s as bad for your teeth as crystal meth or crack.

That’s according to one study, anyway, which found that excessive consumption of soda – even diet soda – can rot your choppers as badly as ingesting two of the most dangerous narcotics on earth.

The good news is it likely takes far more soda than the amount consumed by a normal human being to achieve the same dental devastation as crack or meth. Continue reading

Hand-held dental x-ray machines linked to cancer risks, emitting 10 times the radiation of normal x-rays

Once again, the penny pinching bureaucrats running Great Britain’s National Health Service, notable for a euthanasia program that kills 130,000 people a year, may be responsible for creating yet another unhealthy environment for British subjects.

In this case, British dentists have been warned against using a cheap, hand-held x-ray machine on their patients because they pose a significant health risk.

According to the BBC, the imported machines, known as the Tianjie Dental Falcon, expose “users and patients to 10 times the normal level of radiation, increasing their risks of cancer and organ damage.”

Doctors and dentists in such chronically underfunded, government-run health care systems are always looking for ways to curb costs. In this case, it seems as though one cost-cutting measure has been hurting the very patients they were caring for. But other bureaucrats from the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency are now asking NHS, as well as private dentists, to get rid of the devices.

Entire skull irradiated
In assessing the damage so far, officials have had to admit they don’t know how many patients have been exposed to the additional risk. So far, 13 of the Chinese-made devices have been seized at a distribution center. Most were sold on Internet sites including eBay, the BBC said. At least one dental surgery office was found to be using the dangerous device. Continue reading

Dental x-rays linked to common brain tumor

A new study suggests people who had certain kinds of dental X-rays in the past may be at an increased risk for meningioma, the most commonly diagnosed brain tumor in the U.S.

The findings cannot prove that radiation from the imaging caused the tumors, and the results are based on people who were likely exposed to higher levels of radiation during dental X-rays than most are today.

“It’s likely that the exposure association we’re seeing here is past exposure, and past exposure levels were much higher,” said Dr. Elizabeth Claus, the study’s lead author and a professor at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.

Claus and her colleagues write in the journal Cancer that dental X-rays are the most common source of exposure to ionizing radiation — which has been linked to meningiomas in the past — but most research on the connection is based on people who were exposed to atomic bombs or received radiation therapy. Diet Coke And Sugar Free Gum Are Destroying Your Teeth

There’s already a ton of research into the negative effects of diet soda, including the fact that drinking it makes you hungry, and concerns over carginogenicity. Now it turns out it can destroy your teeth.

People who drink diet soda for its sugar-free content should know that the artificial sweeteners used instead can rot tooth enamel, according to The Guardian (via Jezebel).

Sorbitol, an artificial sweetener found in diet beverages and sugar-free gum, will eat away at enamel and, according to the British Dental Journal, “ultimately cause teeth to dissolve.” Continue reading

‘Look Mum – No Cavaties!’: WHY WAS MERCURY ALLOWED TO BE USED FOR FILLINGS?

If you believe that mercury is strictly a health hazard in the colonys – think again! (Ed.)

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, poison to the environment. If you are cremated when you die, toxic mercury from the fillings in your teeth will pollute the air, contaminate rivers and endanger the health of those you leave behind.

Every year crematoria in Scotland belch out about 130kg of mercury, a liquid heavy metal that attacks the nervous system and can cause brain damage. But the government is planning to introduce new regulations requiring major cuts in mercury emissions. Continue reading

Dental Fillings Targeted in Multiple Lawsuits

The American Dental Association and various state dental organizations find themselves squarely in the path of a swelling wave of litigation over tooth fillings.

The ADA, the largest and oldest dental organization in the nation, has been named in a variety of individual and class-action lawsuits in at least four states, charged with numerous transgressions including alleged fraud and negligence. Continue reading

Hepatitis C linked to dentists

Thousands of hepatitis C sufferers may have contracted the life-threatening virus during dental treatment, health campaigners warned yesterday.

It is feared current methods of sterilising dental equipment may not be effective in removing the risk of transmission of the virus, which is 100 times more infectious than HIV. Continue reading

Whitcomb: Dental Groups Sued Over Mercury in Fillings

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A coalition of public interest groups sued the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association on Tuesday, claiming they have misled the public about the dangers of mercury in tooth fillings.

The lawsuits, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, are the latest salvo in a growing battle over mercury fillings, which opponents say can poison the body with leaking vapors possibly linked to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological problems, especially in children and unborn babies.
