America’s Diminishing IQ

Wherever one goes on social media or any other public forum, one of the main thrusts of conversation is the apparent mental deterioration of the American public. Today’s Americans are not only more ignorant than previous generations, but as illustrated by our violent politics and social chaos, we appear to have lost the ability to function as civilized people. Much is explained by our deplorable educational system, but the loss of the ability of many people of all ages to rationally think and act cannot be explained away simply by bad schools or toxic entertainment. Even the most credulous are beginning to believe that there is some underlying reason for the collapse of the American intellect, something that is more basic than bad teachers, schools and curricula—and they’re right. Studies Show: Adrenaline Sparks Breast Cancer Growth

One of the major changes that occurs when a person suffers from chronic stress is too much adrenaline and cortisol in the system. Now research has discovered a direct link between adrenaline and Breast Cancer.

Adrenaline and the Fight or Flight Response
Adrenaline, also known as epinephrine, is a hormone that is produced by the adrenal glands.

More than likely, you have already heard of the “fight or flight” response, also known as the stress response. The stress response happens automatically and is part of the Sympathetic Nervous System. The body goes into this mode in response to any kind of threat. It could be a stranger walking towards you in a dark alley, a wild animal chasing you, a fight with your spouse or a looming deadline.

Functional recycling: Spent coffee grounds can make soil more fertile

Once you are done with your cup of brewed coffee, what do you do with the used grounds? Do you throw them away as garbage or consign them to the compost heap? Spanish researchers believe that using spent coffee grounds as a means of organic soil amendment will offer many benefits in agriculture and for the environment.

Coffee is a very popular and healthy drink. Its heavy global consumption produces six million tons of used grounds each year. A lot of this biological residue ends up in landfills, to rot alongside the rest of the garbage. Continue reading

POISON: Canola oil is the margarine of yesteryear…

… for uneducated health enthusiasts who have no idea it clogs blood and promotes dementia

What kind of food never spoils? You get one guess. That’s right – the kind you should never eat. So then why do you think most health food stores use canola oil mixed into nearly every packaged and jarred food on their shelves? The honest answer is they’re trying to make more money. Insects won’t go near canola oil – there’s a sign not to eat it right there. Its shelf life runs close to forever. Mix canola oil into salad dressings, mayonnaise, potato salad, macaroni salad, hummus, cereal, or corn chips and their shelf life extends almost indefinitely. Continue reading

The occasion was a talk by one of my colleagues at Stevens Institute, philosopher Gregory Morgan, on the fascinating history of research into cancer-causing viruses. In the Q&A, someone commented on how far science has come in understanding cancer’s causes.
