Johnson: Google’s Debug Project Plans to Release 64 Million Bacteria-Infected Mosquitoes

Google’s Debug project is moving forward with plans to release 64 million bacteria-infected mosquitoes (32 million total, 16 million per year) across California and Florida over the next two years. These male mosquitoes carry Wolbachia bacteria intended to mate with wild females and make their offspring non-viable, crashing local populations.

This is a reckless, large-scale open-air biological experiment conducted on the American public without meaningful consent. Local communities get no real vote. Once released, these engineered insects cannot be recalled if unintended consequences emerge, including ecological disruption, impacts on other species, or unknown effects on human health.

This is not responsible innovation. It is treating citizens like lab rats while playing God with your environment, your children, and your neighborhoods.

Similar mosquito releases have been tried before with poor and harmful results:

According to investigative journalist Jon Fleetwood:

* In Burkina Faso (2026), a NIH (US tax dollars) and Bill Gates-funded project released genetically modified mosquitoes designed to overwrite wild DNA across generations Once released, there is no way to recall them. The mosquito release led to military raids, government shutdown of the program, and destruction of samples due to lack of consultation and serious safety concerns [1]

* In Brazil, Oxitec’s engineered mosquitoes mated with wild populations, producing hybrid offspring that survived and became harder to control or more insecticide-resistant. [2] After bacteria-laced mosquito releases in the Caribbean (2024 linked to Gates-backed efforts), Puerto Rico saw a 350% spike in dengue cases, triggering a public health emergency. Similar surges hit Jamaica and Curacao.

* In Bangladesh (2023), releases preceded the worst dengue epidemic in the country’s history, spreading to all 64 districts. [3]

* Past U.S. trials in the Florida Keys also faced strong public opposition that was largely ignored.

Your fundamental rights to bodily autonomy, informed consent, and a safe environment are being violated. No corporation should unleash millions of modified organisms into your backyard without genuine accountability and community approval.

Demand Action NOW: Contact the FDA and EPA immediately to oppose and reject this experimental permit. Lobby your representatives to block it entirely. Support organizations pushing back against these releases. Insist on full transparency, independent long-term risk assessments, and the right for citizens to veto such experiments in their communities.

This dangerous precedent must be stopped before it spreads nationwide. If Big Tech can flood states with bacteria-laden insects today, what engineered “solution” comes next for your life? Protect your rights and say no to being experimented on.
