Robin Quivers says a vegan diet aided her recovery from cancer

robin-quiversRobin Quivers was making all the news Monday morning while Howard Stern played sidekick, a role reversal that gave way to Quivers’ discussion about her long-time battle with cancer.

Quivers underwent surgery last year to remove a large mass in her pelvic area and chemotherapy to attack a tumor on her bladder. On Monday, Quivers discussed her year-long absence from the Sirius XM show’s studio, and staffers tweeted and posted about it as well.

During her ordeal, Quivers has been largely mum about her health, with only Stern and other members of her inner circle privy to the details. Stern said Monday, “I thought she was a goner” and had also said that he would not continue doing the show without her.

Quivers attributes her vegan diet to aiding her recovery from surgery and treatment, and says doctors have now declared her cancer free. Quivers has a new cookbook out Oct. 1 called “The Vegucation of Robin,” which starts by outlining her lifelong struggles with food and obesity, and chronic health issues.

But when I started eating clean, it all stopped,” Quivers writes in the book, regarding her early venture into veganism. “I couldn’t believe the difference I saw.”

The book, part memoir, part cookbook, also chronicles Quivers difficulties with embracing the new lifestyle. “I was adrift,” she recalled feeling after she made the commitment to veganism, and a slight pang of panic: “Okay, what vegetables are there?

The book, which was actually written before her current health crisis, includes more than 90 recipes that have helped Quivers continue walking the vegan path, including citrus salad with roasted fennel and pomegranate, a peach almond-butter smoothie, tomatillo tortilla soup, spicy roasted cauliflower with pimenton, and grilled portabella mushroom burgers.
