When we uncover what can be toxic to our immune, respiratory, digestive and endocrine systems, we can remove these from our living environment. My thoughts are, the only way to choose health is with proper information and awareness. Find out if you have cancer causing toxins in your home.
1. Your cloths may be tox-sick. Research states synthetic materials, thermoplastics and wrinkle free cloths can be filled with formaldehydes. Formaldehyde is viewed as a carcinogen for humans and respiratory cancer.(1) Additionally, exposure to paint, lacquer, glue and cleaning products which contain formaldehyde can increase risk for nasal cancer. If you live next to a fracking facility, they can increase your exposure to unsafe amounts of formaldehyde. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals causing liver damage, kidney damage, and central nervous system damage.
2. Electromagnetic frequencies can harm brain cells, eyes and neurotransmitters. Avoid EMF blue light from computers, wifi, cells phones, televisions and other electrical devices in or near where you sleep, such as smart meters. EMF’s can not only disrupt our sleep and hormones they can be linked to disrupted DNA.
3. Make sure your mattress isn’t treated with a flame retardant which can impact thyroid disease and thyroid cancer.
4. A professional dry cleaner may put your health at risk. Trichloroethylene is an organic chemical that has been used in dry cleaning and linked to liver and kidney cancer. There are non-toxic sustainable ways of dry-cleaning your cloths.
5. What pesticides are you spraying on your lawn? Environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals including pesticides have been linked to cancer, especially breast and prostate cancer. Atrazine is one of the most widely used herbicides in the U.S., and is sprayed on our lawns, golf courses and found in our water supply. Atrazine is also sprayed on conventional foods including corn, sugarcane, and wheat. It helps to know your farmer.
6. Detox your medicine cabinet? Acetaminophen and non-aspirin NSAIDs are associated with a significant risk of developing kidney cancer. Approximately fifteen million Americans suffer from depression. There is an association between the use of antidepressant medications and colorectal cancer risk. Know the side-effects from your medications.
7. Chemicals found in laundry product such as: Downey® and Bounce® can be harmful to your lungs. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates cleaning supplies, air fresheners, and laundry products, currently does not require manufacturers to disclose any ingredients on the label. According to Anne Steinemann, a professor of civil and environmental engineering and public affairs at the University of Washington, Seattle, “Disclosing all ingredients could be a first step to understanding potential toxicity and health effects.”
8. Caution! There is a direct link between processed meats and cancer. “In 2015 the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded that bacon, ham, and other processed meats are “carcinogenic to humans.” “Eating 50 grams of processed meat daily raises risk of colorectal cancer by eighteen percent.” “Today CSPI is asking for a warning label on packages of processed meat that says: “USDA WARNING: Frequent consumption of processed meat products may increase your risk of developing cancer of the colon and rectum.”
9. The dirt on sugar. Sugar doesn’t just feed cancer cells, it produces them. There is excess insulin in the blood and related risk between colon, prostate, pancreatic, and breast cancer. The Oreo Cookie, for instance, can be your drug of choice and has been said to be as addictive as cocaine.
10. Cow dairy infected with insulin like Growth Factor (rBGH) is not good for human consumption. “Acne, breast cancer and prostate cancer have all been linked epidemiologically to dairy intake.”
11. It’s a new year and time to discard old spices in your pantry. Your spice cabinet may contain old, lifeless, and toxic ingredients that include: GMO Corn in Maltodextrin and Corn Syrup Solids, Caramel Color, Aspartame, and Modified Corn Starch. These are found to be harmful to our kidneys.
12. Research over recent years indicates the health of mitochondria is very much lifestyle and diet dependent. Mitochondria are our energy sources. Addictions, cravings, or excessive consumption of MSG and trans-fats reduces mitochondrial efficiency and increases (ROS) Reactive Oxygen Species. Disrupted mitochondria can pave the way for non-alcoholic liver disease.
13. Our children are exposed to a variety of chemicals in processed foods. Some of these toxic ingredients are linked to cancer. For example Doritos™ ingredients include: GMO corn, cheese, maltodextrin, and corn syrup solids, artificial dyes such as red and yellow, GMO vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils, refined salt and sugar, MSG, wheat and acrylamide.
There are an abundance of un-safe and un-natural foods that well-meaning friends and family bring to parties or gatherings. But, if we already suffer from inflammation in our guts, (Autism, Gerd, IBS, Colitis, Leaky Gut) joints, (arthritis) bones (osteoporosis, poor oral health) and brains, (brain fog, dementia, Alzheimer’s) eating more of these un-natural foods isn’t going to help us feel better, be happier or enjoy our day. On a positive note: we can eliminate the inflammation by avoiding all un-natural processed and boxed foods (thus eliminating the cause.) Just another reason to create your own colorful, organic meals in 2017.
