Melatonin vs Cancer

According to cancer.gov “In 2016, an estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 595,690 people will die from the disease.”Cancer today is an industry of big business. There is constant confusion about how cancer is originated. First of all, what is Cancer? Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Cancer seems to develop when the body is malfunctioning, and it starts with a simple change in either one or a group of cells. This all has to do with the process of how much cells divide. They can spread to certain parts of the body depending on the specific condition. It is absolutely essential to keep your body healthy and one of the many ways to improve your odds of beating cancer is to get adequate sleep.

In my years, as an independent researcher, I have come to a conclusion that cancer cells are produced in our body the moment we are born. We don’t have to worry because our immune system cleans out these cells from our body. Allopathic medicine has been used consistently for decades as a way to treat cancer. Cancer is just managed with drugs, surgery, and chemotherapy. These forms of medicine barely do anything for the body at all, and in my own assessment are used for the sake of more cash. The reason these medicines failed to work is because they are synthetic substances that do the body more damage than good, by destroying the immune system and other healthy cells in the body. In this piece I would like to go over the effects of melatonin, what is is and how it can help fight cancer.

Melatonin is what is known as the sleep hormone and acts as an immune system booster and modulator. Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland and other vital organs like the skin, retina, and bone marrow. It works in conjunction with NK cells or Natural killer cells by producing cytokines to protect cells from damaging free radicals, carcinogens and toxic effects of chemo and radiation. Once mutant and foreign cells are recognized by the immune system, the Nk cells releases a chemical known as perforin. What this compound does is fire a hole in the malignant cells’ outer membrane and rips it apart. WOW!, I was actually kind of pleased and yes it is the way your thinking… Cleansing and renewal of cells occur when you are sleeping. Think of your muscle cells, once you go through an intense workout the immune system help to rebuild broken down tissue that occurred from working out.

Melatonin works best by the increased level of darkness and peaks between the times of 2 and 5 AM. There are some benefits of melatonin other that ascend above sleep and recovery. Such benefits include protection against harmful radioactive agents, improving healing after a surgery, helps produce testosterone, losing weight, and decrease the risk of cancer. To assure adequate levels of melatonin make sure the room you sleep in is completed dark. In a lab study at Michigan State University, researchers grew breast cancer tumors called mammospheres. These tumors were fed with different chemicals that accelerated their growth. Such chemicals include estrogen and pseudo estrogen like BPA (Bisphenol A). Bisphenol A is found in receipts, plastics, and other synthetic household items. Treating these tumors with melatonin reduced the said amount of tumors as well as their size. Inhibiting cancer cell activity and inhibiting tumor growth with melatonin has proven to be true which will be revised in another study done.

In an oncology study, researchers were dealing with patients with glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a malignant tumor affecting the central nervous system. The patients were given either radiation alone or melatonin with radiation. After about a year 23% of the melatonin patients survived whereas the lone radiation group did not. There are ways to boost the activity of melatonin. One of the ways is to get more natural sunlight in the morning. Sunlight produces vitamin D, in addition to helping the pineal gland produce more melatonin in the evening prior to sleeping. Another way to increase melatonin activity is to consume melatonin rich foods like cherries, bananas, pineapples, ginger and tomatoes. All of these foods are rich in antioxidants which fight free radicals and oxidation which is harmful to the body and helps the cancer to thrive. it is absolutely crucial in adjusting lifestyle factors for good sleep. Lack of melatonin can cause problems like decreased immunity, capillary damage, depression, free radical activity.

What are some factors that disrupt our Melatonin levels? One of the factors include lack of adequate sunlight in the daytime. A second factor would be exposure to electromagnetic fields which overstimulate our tired brain. Avoid night lights and watching other electronic devices before you go to bed. the reason for this is because your pineal gland cannot interpret if it is still daytime or not when you are surrounding yourself with electronic devices that emit radioactive light. Avoid alarm clocks at all costs when trying to get a good night’s rest. Alarm clocks only increase the amount of stress one can have upon waking up from a loud irritating noise. it is important to either darken the bedroom, wear an eye mask to avoid any other minor light distractions. Assure that the temperature of the room is about 60 to 68 degrees which can assure an adequate warm environment to sleep in.

Melatonin is responsible for much more than just a cancer combatant but a big determinant of other detriments. Inadequate sleep has been shown to disrupt activity in daily tasks such as driving, playing sports, memory tasks, and completing work for home or school. About 50-70 million people in the United States are suffering from sleep deprivation. According to the CDC “Persons experiencing sleep insufficiency are also more likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as from cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.” The sleep needs of people vary in a persons health history, genetic factors, and generally alters as humans age. We need melatonin to assure adequate sleep cycles with no disturbances in between. Objects like cell phones, alarm clocks, light will only disrupt melatonin cycles and overstimulate your tired brain.

Remember disregarding your sleep plays a huge role in your general health. Deficiency in this key sleep hormone puts you at risk for many health problems, even more so later on life if not taken care of. All of these recommendations on melatonin must be applied immediately in your life if you want to make a significant difference in being healthy again. Cancer has been misunderstood for the longest time and as a result people have paid the price. The war on cancer is still going on and the best suitable answers are being ignored. Many diet and lifestyle components need to be addressed to help solve the cancer epidemic. Melatonin is one of many approaches to keeping us healthy and disease free. Taking drug free approaches seem to be the best way to stay cancer free and avoid any added stress from hospital bills and medical coercion from doctors.
