Energy Drinks: The Monster in the Can (PH, Acidity, Cola, and Cancer)

What is the lie that many of us have accepted affecting our health? Is it a harmless childhood drink perhaps? It’s non-alcoholic. It’s refreshing! As the new craze of energy drinks hit the market in recent years, what do you find you’re telling yourself? “It’s fun, it’s cool, I need the energy!”

To make it as easy as possible to wrap your head around why I’m advocating giving up all soda and those energy drinks, I’ve listed 9 fast facts to help you make an informed choice:

1) PH stands for Power of Hydrogen

2) The PH scale runs from 0-14

3) 0-6.9 is acidic

4) 7-14 is alkaline

5) The body works hard to balance PH

6) 7.3-7.5 is in the healthy range.

7) For the body to go from 6 to 7, in needs 10 times the alkalinity.

8) Alkaline neutralizes acid.

9) Cancer cells have a PH as low as 6. Cancer cells can not survive in an oxygenated and high PH environment. (7 or above)

acid_alkalineAs you can see in the illustration, soda is in the acidic range and energy drinks are highly acidity.

Without getting to scientific in this article (for more information please see notes below) I just want to be sure to stress that cancer thrives in high acidic environments.

Cancer thrives in this scenario. Low oxygen, low alkaline/high acidic environment causes cell walls to become hard and rigid. This causes only some nutrients and limited oxygen to be able to enter the cell. At the same time the hard, rigid cell wall will not let all the waste products and toxins to exit the cell. This causes the cell to become toxic, giving cancer a place to thrive.

Coconut water, green tea, high alkaline/ionized, filtered water with lemon or veggie slices (i.e., cucumbers), and hulk juice are a few alternatives to soda and energy drinks.

About the Can…
YouTube is filled with both truthful, fact-filled videos that are used as helpful resources everyday by millions of people around the planet as well as with half-cocked stories of this or that, which people take as either truth or simply as entertainment. I’m sure everyone reading this has fallen into either categories at one time or another.

Recently I stumbled onto a video that some are calling absurd; yet there are some fascinating points in the video that I’d like to share with you to illustrate my point. Christine Weick posted a video about a popular energy drink which went viral. In it she makes some very interesting claims about this popular drink, and the symbols on the can. Now I’m not trying to convince you that her claims are true. You will need to view the video yourself, take her points into consideration and decide whether or not you agree. As a believer in Jesus Christ and claim to love him —and I feel that her claims about this can/drink hold some weight, then I’m stirred to investigate further.

Here is where it would be easy for me to compromise my faith and conviction to overlook, to settle, for what the world considers normal and harmless in drinking out of a certain energy drink or a soda.

Once informed of the damaging effects that energy drinks cause to my body and health, if I still chose to drink it simply because they are “a convenient source of energy”, then I would be settling for a counterfeit source of nourishment.

The Monster called Compromise
By definition, Compromise is: “A settlement of differences by mutual concessions; the result of such settlement”. To settle is to dwell or to take up residence.

Who or what is involved in this mutual concession? If I’m being honest, concession is being made between us and this enemy of our soul. God doesn’t want us to settle for or stay in a place of compromise, where we are only receiving a counterfeit product of what He truly has for us: “The enemy comes in to kill, steal and destroy.” (John 10:10a)

Are we ready to break camp and move on? What does it take to break this agreement or pact made with this enemy? First the decision has to be made that we are no longer going to give this lie consent. We, in essence have made an agreement with a lie- the devil is the father of all lies. To break this agreement, truth is necessary.

What truth do we have available to us now to combat this lie? Expose it!

It is my sincere desire (passion) to educate and encourage; to bring awareness to counter the mainstream culture with a healthier viewpoint on life. (nutrition) Can you see the way small compromises have a far reaching effect on our overall health, both spiritually and physically?

By doing just a little research for yourself, you can find for yourself how having a “Coke and a Smile” isn’t as innocent as we’ve been led to believe.
