Many of our devout beliefs about nutrition are getting totally debunked

potatoes-14The potato industry recently scored a big victory, in what sounds at first like a familiar story of Big Ag winning out over public health.

Eight years ago, over allegations of insufficient nutritional value, potatoes were excluded from a government program that helps pregnant women and young children improve their diets.

The rationale was that aid recipients in the Women, Infants, and Children program already ate plenty of white potatoes, a widely consumed vegetable in the U.S. Continue reading

Get Ready for the Trans Fat Ban

Photo: Lucy Nicholson/Reuters Trans fats are used in shortenings for deep-frying in restaurants, as they can be used for longer than most conventional oils before becoming rancid. In the early 21st century, non-hydrogenated vegetable oils that have lifespans exceeding that of the frying shortenings became available. As fast-food chains routinely use different fats in different locations, trans fat levels in fast food can have large variations.

The nanny state’s death star agency, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is getting ready to ban trans fats.

If you enjoy donuts, movie popcorn, pie crust or french fries (to name a few) you’d better movie quickly before the jack boot of government food regulation sucks as much joy as possible from the American food palette. Continue reading

Medical holocaust: Psych drugs have killed more than 5 million people over the last 10 years

Graves-MultipleIf every single person currently taking psychotropic medications or antidepressants were to be pulled off these deadly drugs and given a new, safer regimen instead, society would be much better off. This is the larger inference of a new review published in The BMJ (British Medical Journal), which found that more than half a million people in the West die every year from psych meds, which authors found have “minimal” benefits and a multitude of harmful side effects. Ten of the lids made up the control group, meaning they weren’t handled, while the other 30 were the experiment group. These 30 lids were handled by coffee shop owners and customers alike, accumulating bacteria that was then looked at in the lab. Continue reading

Major Monsanto Lawsuit Completely Blacked out by Media

gmo-appleWhat happens when one courageous attorney and a few citizens try to take down Monsanto? The MSM doesn’t cover it, for starters.

7 reasons why natural cancer remedies sometimes fail

cancer_02Mainstream medicine has ways of disguising the fact that their treatments often lead to the demise of cancer patients. It’s easy to claim that the patient simply died of cancer, not chemotherapy poisoning or radiation damage.

Their rate of reversing cancer is dismal, even as they play linguistic and statistical games with their results to continue marketing their methods as the only effective treatments around.

On the other hand, those who seek alternative methods of dealing with cancer have a much greater chance of surviving cancer without any adverse reactions or side effects. As an old saying went: with herbal medicine, the disease can kill you; but with allopathic (mainstream) medicine, the treatment can kill you. Continue reading

There were subscriptions to dating websites, meals at Hooters and purchases at Victoria’s Secret — not to mention jet ski joy rides and couples’ cruises to the Caribbean.

All of it was paid for with the nearly $200 million donated to cancer charities, and was enjoyed by the healthy friends and family members of those running the groups, in what government officials said Tuesday was one of the largest charity fraud cases ever.

At the center of the operation was James T. Reynolds Sr., who opened the Cancer Fund of America in 1987. Over the decades, according to a complaint filed by the Federal Trade Commission and regulators from 50 states and the District of Columbia, he expanded the enterprise to four separate groups and was joined by his son, friends and members of his Mormon Church congregation in Knoxville, Tenn. Government Releases Massive Trove of Data on Doctors’ Prescribing Patterns

prescription-drugsThe federal government released detailed data today on nearly 1.4 billion prescriptions dispensed to seniors and disabled people in the Medicare program in 2013, bringing more openness to the medication choices of doctors nationwide.

The data release comes two years after ProPublica reported that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had done little to detect or deter hazardous prescribing in its drug program, known as Medicare Part D. ProPublica analyzed several years’ worth of prescription data, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, and created a tool called Prescriber Checkup that lets users compare individual physicians to others in the same specialty and state.

But Medicare itself hadn’t made this information easily accessible—until now. Continue reading

Activists in several countries are seeking to void patents on the blockbuster hepatitis C drug Sovaldi, saying that the price being sought by the manufacturer, Gilead Sciences, was prohibitive.

The Initiative for Medicines, Access and Knowledge, a legal group in New York, is expected to announce Wednesday that it has filed challenges in Argentina, Brazil, China, Russia and Ukraine. In all those countries except China, the organization is being joined by local patient advocacy groups.

The actions are a sign that the controversy over Sovaldi is spreading beyond the United States, where the $84,000 charge for a course of treatment has strained Medicaid budgets, to middle-income countries. Continue reading

Alkalinity 101: Which Side of the pH Scale are YOU on?

~ Foreword by Granny ~

old_woman_praySeveral readers have asked for more information on the pH way of eating. I hope this will increase your level of knowledge on this topic. There are many resources out there on pH and the vital importance it holds to your health.

I have said it time and again that I do not promote any products but I do read the other information that is on the commercial sites. I changed my acidic system to a neutral level (working on becoming more alkaline) simply by changing how and WHAT I eat and drink. I will add some baking soda to a glass of water every so often to increase the alkaline level.

I have so improved my own health by simply switching to eating Alkaline forming foods and drinks (water) and reducing the amount of acidic forming foods. The list of foods is easily Googled.

If you are tired of being sick – being held hostage to the AMA – Big PHARMA – Insurance industry – then it is time to become an adult and take control of your health instead of sitting around crying about not feeling good or being in FEAR of the SWINE FLUke like a toddler. If you ARM your BODY to fend off all disease then you aren’t subject to the AKA HELL CARE plans.

I can send out all the great info and links there are but it is up to each reader to ACT. You have the CHOICE to be SICK or to be WELL. It is your choice to make. Even if you have some bad situation you can make it BETTER by making these changes. The only *side effects* from taking control of your health is that you will get better.

Government Says Big Pharma Kills More People Than All Illegal Drugs Combined

prescription-drugsA new study has shown that pharmaceutical drugs cause more overdoses and more deaths than all of the illegal drugs on the market combined. According to the government’s own statistics, listed on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, deaths relating to pharmaceutical drugs rose to roughly 23,000 last year, which accounts for over half of the total overdose deaths in the country for that time period.

Additionally, a recent study conducted by researchers with the University of Virginia, University of Arkansas, the Partnership for Drug Free Kids, and the American Institutes for Research reconfirmed the known dangers of pharmaceutical drug abuse. Continue reading

The olive oil you’re buying is probably a rip off

olive oilThe olive oil you’re buying probably isn’t as healthy as you think.

About 70% of the olive oil Americans buy isn’t extra virgin, David Neuman, CEO of Greek olive oil company Gaea’s US division, told Business Insider.

“Since olive oil became so popular there isn’t enough of the good stuff to go around,” Neuman said. “Even if there were, many consumers aren’t willing to pay for it.

As a result, the majority of olive oil Americans buy isn’t from Italy or extra virgin as advertised. Continue reading
