In Memory of Walter
Back in the day, a LONG time ago, when I was stupid enough to think I was “something”, since Mom went to 7th grade, and Dad went to 8th grade, and there I was, sitting in Mary Baldwin College…
The Professor asked us, “Which profession prevents disease the most in the United States”???
I raised my hand. Of course I knew everything…
“Doctors!!”, I proclaimed. The professor informed me in front class I was wrong. Then the next guess, Nurses. Again, wrong. The list ran on and on……
Finally, the professor said, “Garbage Collectors. Garbage collectors prevent more disease than any other profession”.
The Professor even put that question on the final exam…
Made a lasting impact on me…….. in my driveway now, just took pic of my trash can, a new appreciation for those who collect our trash, even more so than the doctors, though I do not desire to cut the doctors short of anything.
