Chief Medical Officer of Major Cancer Center Resigns After Receiving Millions From Big Pharma

“The doctor is brainwashed when he/she gets out of medical school because the medical school has too much subsidization of the professors who are being paid by the drug company, so the professor never teachers any student in medical school, why don’t you try vitamin C, they’re going to tell them the latest drug.” – Dr. Gary F. Gordon (source)

Medical science has lost a large amount of credibility over the past few years, and that’s because it’s plagued with the politicization and corporatization of science. We can no longer trust our government health authorities to make decisions based on human health and well being, as we are constantly seeing decisions being made based on financial incentives.

Resistance From Within
Many from within have been quite outspoken about this problem. Recently, a group of more than a dozen scientists from within the CDC put out a public statement, while remaining anonymous, outlining the big problem of corporate influence and the effect it is having on health policy decisions. They were referred to as the Spider Papers.

It was only a few years ago when senior CDC scientist Dr. William Thompson blew the whistle on corruption within the CDC, specifically with regards to the MMR vaccine. Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and longtime Editor-in-Chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, considered one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world, alongside The Lancet, has spoken out as follows:

It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.” (source)

Cancer
When it comes to cancer, we see the same thing. I don’t donate to major cancer charities because a lot of them have turned out to be frauds. What’s even more hypocritical is a company like KFC donating money to cancer and using a pink ribbon while selling cancer-causing foods. When it comes to curing cancer, all we’ve been programmed to do is raise money for large organizations, thinking that is helping the issue.

One example would be the Brooklyn-based National Children’s Leukemia Foundation. They were shut down after they raised millions of dollars through professionally-run fundraisers. They lured people in, claiming that the funds would be used to conduct cancer research and locate bone marrow donors, while in fact they were only using a small portion of the funds for their “Make a Dream Come True” campaign. In fact, less than 1 percent of the millions of donated dollars actually went to providing help for leukaemia patients. Between 2009 and 2013, a total of almost 10 million dollars was donated. We have to remember that the Medical Establishment have a trillion-dollar incentive to suppress cures for cancer. There have been many supposed cures over the years, yet all of these have been shut down because the system is set up so that the only treatment that doctors can recommend is chemotherapy and radiation. This is the treatment that’s patented, that generates huge profits, and therefore, it’s the one we get. As Medical Director Dr. Jonathan V. Wright, M.D. points out,

We got hours and hours and hours on how to use, basically patented medicines, which as you know, are what usually goes on a prescription pad as a molecule that can be patented which means that it’s not found in nature….And that’s what we get educated in. (source)

The Corruption Of Dr. Baselga
The latest scam to reach public awareness is the indiscretions of Dr. José Baselga, the chief medical officer for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Approximately a month ago, he resigned after it became known that he failed to disclose the millions of dollars in payments from health-care companies he received in exchange for dozens of ‘research’ articles. This was big news considering he is one of the most prominent doctors in the field of Oncology.

As the New York Times reports:

The revelations about Dr. Baselga’s disclosure lapses have rocked Memorial Sloan Kettering, one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, in recent days. Its top executives scrambled to contain the fallout, including urgent meetings of physician leaders and the executive committee of its board of directors…In his resignation letter, Dr Baselga, who also served as the physician-in-chief, said he feared that the matter would be a distraction from his role overseeing clinical care and that he had been “extremely proud” to work at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

The company he received money from was Roche, who sponsored the clinical trials that were widely considered disappointments, yet he still put a positive spin on the results, without telling anybody that he has received more than $3 million from them in consulting fees as well as a stake in a company that Roche acquired.

Dr. Baselga’s relationship to industry is extensive. In addition to sitting on the board of Bristol-Myers Squibb, he is a director of Varian Medical Systems, which sells radiation equipment and for whom Memorial Sloan Kettering is a client. In all, Dr. Baselga has served on the boards of at least six companies since 2013, positions that have required him to assume a fiduciary responsibility to protect the interests of those companies, even as he oversees the cancer center’s medical operations.

The Takeaway
Approximately 1.8 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States alone this year, and approximately 600,000 people will die from the disease. The number of new cancer cases is 454.8 per 100,000 men and women per year, based on cases from 2008-2010. Men have almost a 50 percent chance of contracting the disease at some point within their lifetime, and women have a 1/3 chance. Pretty crazy isn’t it? (source)

As much as we write about the mind-body connection, in today’s environment, and the exponential growth of disease rates, it’s important to be aware of some things and counter-act them with a healthy lifestyle. The key to combating disease on this planet is simply us, and our lifestyle choices.

As much as big pharma, big business and corrupt politics plays a role in modern day medicine, at the end of the day, you have the ability to not let it affect you. If it’s a matter of concern to you, then instead of supporting corporate cancer charities, you can model cancer prevention with your own lifestyle. It’s a much more effective way to combat this disease.
