Consumers purchase bottled water for many reasons. One, perhaps, is they think they are buying spring water that is not contaminated with fluoride. Well, think again!

Fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons, probably because of their capacity to modify the metabolism of cells by changing the permeability of the cell membrane and by inhibiting certain enzyme systems. ~ JAMA Sept 18, 1943, Editorial.

That was what the Journal of the American Medical Association published in 1943. What’s happened since?

July 20, 2012, the online journal Environmental Health Perspectives, a publication of the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, published remarks regarding a Harvard study about fluoride.

Here is some of what that Harvard paper had to say:

Fluoride readily crosses the placenta. Fluoride exposure to the developing brain, which is much more susceptible to injury caused by toxicants than is the mature brain, may possibly lead to damage of a permanent nature.

The average loss in IQ was reported as a standardized weighted mean difference of 0.45, which would be approximately equivalent to seven IQ points for commonly used IQ scores with a standard deviation of 15. [….] Thus, children in high-fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-fluoride areas.

Additionally, consider this about fluoride’s effects on adults:

Extremely high levels of fluoride are known to cause neurotoxicity in adults, and negative impacts on memory and learning have been reported in rodent studies, but little is known about the substance’s impact on children’s neurodevelopment.

So, how did fluoride originally get added to our drinking water? Believe it or not, to get rid of an industrial waste product! Bauxite, the ore in which aluminum is found, also contains dangerous fluoride, and what’s called “aluminum tailings” from mining operations was a big disposal problem looking for a rapid solution. Here’s how that happened:

It is an industrial waste byproduct.

As aluminum production increased in the first half of the twentieth century, it became necessary to find somewhere to put the fluoride. Manufacturers could no longer get away with dumping it into rivers or landfills, because it was poisoning crops and making livestock sick. Francis Frary, chief scientist for ALCOA, had an idea. He commissioned Gerald Cox at the Mellon Institute, to conduct research regarding the benefits of adding fluoride to the water supply. The Mellon Institute was frequently hired by big business to produce research that supported their industries, and for several decades they produced research showing that asbestos was safe and did not cause cancer.

They also produced reports assuring everyone that fluoride was not toxic and would be beneficial to add to our drinking water for healthy teeth.

Here’s yet another indication where healthcare consumers believed the U.S. dental profession, HHS, CDC, EPA, and FDA about fluoride being a ‘healthful’ substance added to potable water to prevent cavities, which is not factual since dentists now are placing sealants on molars to prevent cavities [dental caries]. After almost sixty years of fluoridating water supplies in the USA, the HHS and EPA reduced the amount of fluoride being placed in water on January 7, 2011.

So, is there fluoride in the brand of bottled water you consume? Well, according to RealFarmacy.com, and the list those folks created, here are bottled water brand names and companies.

As a retired consulting natural nutritionist, I’d like to offer a word of caution to parents of infants and toddlers who still take formula, as opposed to mom’s breast milk or grass-fed cow or goat milk: Please go out of your way to make certain the formula you are giving your darling baby is fluoride-free. However, I can almost guarantee that if you are purchasing a corporate-conglomerate manufacturer’s brand, it’s got fluoride in it! So do grain and nut milks contain fluoride because of fluoridated municipal water sources used, plus other chemical additives that are included. Read labels on the cartons.

I hope no parent has bought into giving his/her child(ren) Sodium Fluoride Drops! That over-prescribing, pediatrician outrage, in my opinion, is an ideal ‘medicine’ that can lead to and/or cause dental fluorosis, which looks like this—pitted and damaged teeth!

Every parent and adult, whether a parent or not, ought to resolve to stop drinking poisoned water. Fluoride is not the only chemical added to municipal water systems. Here’s a list of water treatment chemicals.

For close to twenty years living on three acres, we had a 150 foot deep well. I had the water tested periodically for toxins, chemicals and bacteria, and nothing ever came up as a red flag. However, that was back in the 1970s-80s before GMO farming with all its toxic chemicals. Today, I suggest folks with wells also get their water tested for radioactivity since most of the nuclear power plants are leaking and contaminating underground water sources. Water travels underground and you don’t know from where your aquifer is sourced. How about testing for methane [7] from fracking, plus the fracking chemicals? Another test—the water can catch on fire test, is easy to do at home, but be extremely careful when doing that test, as noted in this video.

So, what do you do? Maybe consumers ought to think about investing in a reverse osmosis water treatment unit for the kitchen sink, at least, so drinking and cooking water can be as clean as possible. There are under-the-kitchen-sink units that are relatively inexpensive, but they need to be installed properly, which may require a plumber.

Some RO units are available online, and in home improvement warehouses, so here’s a “primer” on reverse osmosis.

Water, Nature’s gift and elixir of life, should not be poisoned!
